Wednesday 24th April

Decided to have a quick squint at this today – only time for a single race I’m afraid. Fingers crossed then that the VDW continue to at least identify likely winners. Epsom 15.55 Cl 2 Hcap 311 (107) 10f gd – 13 Run (12 at best) Last year – 311 (102) gd – 10 ran Ajman King 9/4 F 4-8-12 (93) Dr 2 by 1...

Re: Saturday 20th April

Thanks Martin, the luck was still running - the first race has teh first three home, albeit in the wrong order.

Was going to try again today, but 4 N/R in the Plumpton race upset calculations, so I decided against it - good job I did, as I wouldn't have picked the winner!

Saturday 20th April

I have the feeling you could be right Martin! Having enjoyed good fortune so far this week I decided to follow along with the old VDW pointers for a while. To be honest though, neither race really lends itself to the methodology today and there no clear cut selections like on Wednesday and yesterday...

Friday 19th April

After my good fortune on Wednesday, I'll have another look with the traditional VDW pointers. Bath 15.30 Cl 2 Hcap 311 (100) 8f gd/fm – 15 Run (13 at best) Last year – 311 (107) fm – 11 ran Oh This Is Us 3/1 4-9-10 (107) Dr 9 by 0.25l from Hors De Combat 9/1 6-9-5 (102) Dr 12 Petrus 4-9-7 (97) Dr 14...

Wednesday 17th April

The old traditional VDW approach has been raised elsewhere recently and as I had a holiday today due to the elections, I did an analysis as best I understand his basic approach. Although it is a NH race at Cheltenham, it is of decent class, but don't blame me if it doesn't turn out right, as I've ne...

Saturday 13th April

Pleased that last week’s pick ran into the paying places in the National, as the favourite did what many (including myself) expected him to do. I’ll doubt we’ll have the same luck up at Ayr though, while down at Newbury the Spring Cup looks as problematic as ever. Newbury 15.15 Cl 2 Hcap 311 (105) 8...

Re: Saturday 6th April

Good choice Martin, and I must admit I'm not at all surprised he won. Just pleased that Anibale Fly plugged on into 5th.
As regards the previous race, we now know that Kildisart stays 3 miles!

Saturday 6th April

Looks like a similar problem to last week with a short-priced favourite offering no value in the main race. He may well win, but at that price he’d be no bet for me, so as far as I’m concerned even after all the many hours invested, this year’s National is a non-starter as far as looking for a winne...

Re: Saturday 30th March

True Martin, but I couldn't have backed him at that price. Had I been betting, I would probably have taken my first choice (the runner-up) each way. Those I don't mind losing so much when you have a group horse slumming it in a handicap!

Saturday 30th March

Didn’t get much right last week, but maybe the switch to the flat will bring a change of fortune – though hardly the easiest set of races to get us started. The Spring Mile has never been an especially lucrative hunting ground, although the Lincoln itself has presented better fortune as like last ye...
