SPEED RATING

Postby danwhite86 » Tue Feb 03, 2015 4:57 pm

Hi, can someone tell me how to read the speed ratings. Are they worked out on time a race was run at or actual speed of a horse in a race? Also as most horses run at different distances are the speed figures relevant to todays pattern form speed figure or just reflect that individual race run. Im curious as the speed ratings vary massively in some races where a horse has a high figure in one race but then the next its miles lower even under same conditions? Thanks.

You probably need to read some books on speed rating to fully understand the subject. Mordin on time is one and I'm sure there are many more.

All I can say is that if a race is slowly run then it will generate a low speed figure. So a horse can win what looks like similar races but if one is run at a crawl, then sprint at the end, it will most likely produce a much lower speed figure than the faster run race.
