** I posted this in the Patternform Facebook Group earlier:
One approach I sometimes take to place betting, especially in Maiden/novice races is to look for a runner with just one or two runs who has dobbed both times but is unconsidered in the market. You can get place prices between 4.0 and 10, so you don't need everyone to get placed.
In the 5.25 Chelm for instance - JACK TAYLOR - was 25/1 (55 on Bfsp), but traded down to 14 inplay – comment - “held up but in touch, ridden 2f out, not pace to get involved ” - so he showed something, btn 7l 6th of 7. He should improve for the run, and who knows might sneak into a place at a nice price. It's already 40-1 with three bookmakers, so I would expect a drift on BF from it's current 36 nearer the off. Only two others in the race have dobbed (from an admittedly small number of races)
** Finished 2nd at 25-1
Place selections
Re: Place selections
Well done, great shout with Jack Taylor
Re: Place selections
Beginners luck - I'll have another later which will reset the balance!
Re: Place selections
This one is an even bigger stretch than yesterdays and goes in the 7.15 at Newcastle.
POWER SAIL – is the most experienced of these having has three starts.
Always in the rear on it's debut over 7f.
On it's second start in a class 3 at York over a mile (80-1), finished in mid-field (8of16) and traded down to 80 from 470.
It's last race it was dropped back to a class 4 again over a mile and again started 80-1 but was only one spot from the place position (4of8) traded down to 27 from 215.
In both it's last races it couldn't make any impression over the final furlong, so this drop back to 7f may help.
66-1 available with several bookies, hopefully on the exchanges we'll get 10.0+ the place
