The less said about Saturday the better, but I thought I’d have a look at one at Windsor tonight in the hopes of obtaining a better result. Nothing to get the pulse racing, but let’s hope it was worth the effort.

Windsor 20.00 Cl 3 Hcap 72 (83.6) 8f gd/fm – 8 Run

I’vegotthepower 5-9-4 (86) Dr 1
7/2* Cons 12* AB 66* Lto 93* SF 66 Rat 101
23 May Cl 3 Hcap (93/88.6) 8f gd Sand 16/1 9-0 2.5l 4/8 off 87 – 88
led, ridden and kept on until headed inside final furlong, weakened final 100 yards
06 May Cl 3 Hcap (72/87.0) 8f gd Wind 20/1 9-2 8.5l 7/8 off 88 – 78
tracked leader 3f, chased leaders, ridden over 2f out, weakened soon after
05 Jul ‘17 Bath Cl 3 3yo-Hcap (91/81.7) 8f fm Bath 5/2 F 9-5 0.02l 1/6 off 83 – 93*
tracked leader, ridden 3f out, joined leader over 1f out, driven to lead narrowly inside final furlong, all out
Showed promise as a 3yo winning back-to-back hcaps at Goodwood and Bath in 2017 before something obviously went amiss; not seen till the start of May when obviously unfancied and in need of the race over C&D here; upped in class off 1lb lower mark at Sandown later in the month and showed improvement till weakening in the final furlong to finish 4/8 to Lush Life and previous winner War Glory; likely to have come on again for runs off a further 1lb lower mark today, plus also drops in class of opposition he’s facing; runs off a 3lbs higher mark and carries 1lb less physical weight when recording a career best at Bath on his final start as a 3yo; certainly worthy of consideration.

Medieval 5-9-0 (82) Dr 4
10/3* Cons 11* AB 63* Lto 91 SF 72* Rat 104*
17 May Cl 3 Hcap (91/86.8) 8f gd/fm Nwmkt 3/1 8-11 5.25l 3/6 off 83 – 84
in touch, pushed along over 2f out, headway over 1f out, one pace final furlong
01 May Cl 4 App Hcap (67/78.9) 8f gd/fm Ascot 9/1 9-5 4.25l 3/20 off 83 – 82
held up mid-division, headway over 2f out, soon ridden, one pace final furlong
Not won since September 2017 when he took a 52/81.6 off 86; has threatened on a number of occasions since but always seems to lack that final push; nevertheless, his mark has now dropped 10lbs since the beginning of last season and put in an improved effort in higher class at Newmarket last month and runs off a further 1lb lower today; with his rider claiming a further 3lbs, not without chances.

Of others, Wind In My Sails comes from winning a 48/71.1 apprentice hcap off 75 and while he has won off 82 in the past, that was only a 47/78.7 hcap back in August 2016. Mr Tyrrell, meanwhile, has won two of his four starts this term, the last being a 43/74.0 at Bath last month off 80; since then, however, he failed to make an impression in a 65/77.4 at Newmarket off 85, although he was carrying 9-12; while he is down 9lbs in physical weight today, he is meeting the stiffest opposition he’s faced to date in this 72/83.6. Marathat and Family Fortunes would seem to be far better animals on the AW than on turf.

So all in all, while nothing really stands out from the rest, it would appear to lie between I’vegotthepower and Medieval, with my preference being for the former dropping in class.
