Monday 10th June

Postby Devasteve » Mon Jun 10, 2019 1:41 pm

Well, a typical Saturday to end my 10 days holiday. Fortunately for all things will slow down now, but there was a Cl 2 so I thought I’d try to find a June winner, Fingers crossed, although I don’t like the price!

Pontefract 19.35 Cl 2 Hcap 123 (91.7) 12f gd – 10 Run (9 at best)

Last year – 157 (96.5) gd/fm – 4 ran
My Reward 4/1 6-9-4 (100) Dr 5 by 1.25l from Final 7/2 6-8-8 (90) Dr 1

Claire Underwood 4-8-5 (86) Dr 2
11/2* Cons 7* AB 60 Lto 134* SF 82 Rat 114
25 May Cl 3 Hcap (134/83.4) 13.5f gd Chest 5/2 F 8-13 2l 3/7 off 86 – 89
always well placed, chased leader 2f out, ridden over 1f out, not quicken inside final furlong
03 May Cl 3 Hcap (93/85.2) 12.5f gd Muss 9/4 8-7 1.25l 1/6 off 84 – 91
pushed up to soon lead, ridden 2f out, found extra when pressed inside final furlong, gamely
Has done well for Fahey since coming over from Ireland last April, winning 4 out of 10 starts, the latest at Musselburgh in early May on her second start back when she beat Everything For You (+14) by 1.25l with today’s rider in the plate; raised 2lbs for that, though carrying 6lbs more physical weight she was unable to double up over 1f further when favourite at Chester later in the month; with her rider’s claim though, she carries 13lbs less today and while this is tougher opposition it’s not above her capabilities to go close today; she should certainly confirm Musselburgh running with Everything For You on just 2lbs worse terms.

Sleeping Lion 4-8-10 (91) Dr 1
9/2* Cons 9* AB 50 Lto 93 SF 101* Rat 114
22 May Cl 3 Hcap (93/86.3) 11f AW Kemp 3/1 F 9-5 3l 3/10 off 91 – 94
dwelt held up, pushed along and headway 2f out, ridden to chase leading pair entering final furlong, no impression inside final furlong
27 Apr Cl 3 Hcap (72/84.1) 12f AW Wolv 5/4F 9-6 1.75l 2/8 off 89 – 96
steadied start, held up last, headway on outside over 1f out, edged left inside final furlong, stayed on into 2nd near finish, never near to challenge
Lightly-raced sort who was a back-to-back winner at Kempton and Newbury last summer, the latter an 81/82.4 hcap over 12f carrying 9-3; placed on both his starts this term on the AW, although looked to need further than the 11f at Kempton lto; drops in physical weight today, but is up in class of course; not the strongest contender.

Caliburn 4-8-11 (92) Dr 3
2/1* Cons 18 AB 65* Lto 311* SF 88 Rat 114
15 May Cl 2 Hcap (311/97.4) 12f gd/fm York 12/1 8-11 3.5l 5/18 off 92 – 97
held up towards rear, headway 4f out, ridden over 1f out, kept on inside final furlong
Won one of his six starts when with Hugo Palmer, a 13.5f novice at Haydock last June; moved to the Balding yard in early May and made a promising return in a decent handicap at York where he was a creditable 5/18 to First Eleven; Everything For You (+1) 2.5l further back in 9th; entitled to come on for that and carrying the same weight off the same mark looks likely to go well against less demanding opposition; a definite contender.

Everything For You 5-8-12 (93) Dr 8
13/2* Cons 14# AB 63 Lto 311 SF 107* Rat 115*
15 May Cl 2 Hcap (311/97.4) 12f gd/fm York 25/1 8-12 6l 9/18 off 93 – 94
mid-division, headway over 7f out, pushed along over 3f out, one pace
03 May Cl 3 Hcap (93/85.2) 12.5f gd Muss 13/8F 9-7 1.25l 2/6 off 93 – 98
raced wide close up, pushed along 5f out, ridden and headway over 2f out, every chance over 1f out, unable to quicken inside final furlong
Had wind surgery between seasons and ran well his first two starts back, before finding the York hcap a bit too hot lto; not weighted to turn the tables on either Claire Underwood or Caliburn, it is nevertheless noted that his win at Haydock last September came on sf, so maybe any torrential rain could turn things in his favour; on balance though, not a contender.

Of others, last year’s winner My Reward runs off an 8lbs lower mark, but hasn’t within 13l of the winner in his three starts this time round. There has been money for Blue Laureate, but with only a 2yo mdn to his credit so far he would not be carrying any of my money.

I’m not going to be very original here, but would opt for Caliburn who may be given most to do by Claire Underwood,
