Thanks Martin, I was very satisfied with the Hunt Cup analysis and had hoped to give this a better look than I’ve had time for. Still it’s worth a go as it is Ascot after all.

Ascot 17.35 Cl 2 Hcap 560 (101.0) 12f gd/sf – 19 Run

Last year – 560 (99.6) gd/fm – 17 ran
Dash Of Spice 7/2 F 4-9-3 (98) Dr 14 by 2.25l from Sir Chauvelin 33/1 6-9-2 (97) Dr 8
Top Tug 8/1 7-9-10 (105) Dr 10 was 4.25l 5th

Baghdad 4-9-8 (104) Dr 12 (128.3)
05 May Cl 2 Hcap (311/95.3) 12f gd Nwmk 9/4 F 9-8 0.5l 1/9 off 100 – 128.3
keen close up, pushed along over 2f out, headway approaching final furlong, ridden and stayed on to lead towards finish
21 Jun Cl 2 3yo-Hcap (560/91.1) 12f gd/fm Ascot 9/1 8-12 0.25l 1/18 off 90 – 114.1
raced keenly, always prominent, driven to challenge over 2f out, ridden to lead narrowly inside final 2f, stayed on gamely in sustained battle final furlong, just held on
Edged Corgi (-2) in last year’s King George V although not seen thereafter; satisfactory return at Newcastle in April after a 302-day break and resumed winning ways in a career best at Newmarket last month; meets Corgi on 3lbs worse terms today, but looked to have made significant improvement on his Newmarket performance; proven over course and distance, though has not run on softer than gd/sf on which he had form as a 2yo.
Plus: class (W); distance (W); course (W); recent form run (47 days); career best lto;
Minus: going (?); up 4lbs OR;
Verdict: lightly raced for a Johnston horse and unproven on the ground, but C& D winner and looks to have improved from last year; may possibly have come on for his Newmarket run and has to be considered a contender.
Fujaira Prince 5-9-3 (99) Dr 11 (122.1)
15 May Cl 2 Hcap (311/97.4) 12f gd/fm York 7/2 F 9-0 0.25l 2/18 off 95 – 122.1
tracked leader, led over 2f out, headed inside final furlong, kept on gamely, held near finish
27 Apr Cl 3 Hcap (78/88.9) 10f gd Donc 11/8 F 9-1 3l 1/14 off 88 – 114.9
tracked leaders, headway to lead 2f out, ran on, comfortable
Runner-up on debut as a 3yo, but won both starts last season and completed the hat-trick at Doncaster on his return in April; upped a further 7lbs for that he made a brave effort when upped to this trip at York lto, recording a career best in only just going down to First Eleven (+2) with both Corgi (+3) and Collide (+3) behind; raised a further 4lbs for that and carries 3lbs more actual weight today against stronger opposition; however, is proven on gd/sf.
Plus: class (F); distance (F); recent form run (37 days); career best lto;
Minus: going (?); course (?); up 3lbs (wt); up 4lbs (OR);
Verdict: unexposed, but climbing the weights and may have difficulty on confirming York running.
Corgi 4-9-3 (99) Dr 9 (122.3)
15 May Cl 2 Hcap (311/97.4) 12f gd/fm York 8/1 9-3 2.5l 3/18 off 98 – 122.3
mid-division, headway over 3f out, ridden over 1f out, kept on same pace
21 Jun Cl 2 3yo-Hcap (560/91.1) 12f gd/fm Ascot 12/1 8-10 0.25l 2/18 off 88 – 111.8
in touch on outside, driven and headway over 2f out, ridden to challenge well over 1f out, kept on and every chance in sustained battle with winner final furlong, just held
Just the one win to date, over 10f at Sandown last June prior to just going down to Baghdad (+2) in the King George; meets B on 3lbs better terms and has had wind surgery and been gelded between seasons; under the circumstances, not disgraced when 3rd at York on his return splitting Fujaira Prince (-3) and Collide (0); entitled to come on for that and runs off the same weight today, although off 1lb higher mark; has form on gd/sf.
Plus: class (F); distance (F); course (F); recent form run (37); career best lto;
Minus: going (?); up ilb (OR);
Verdict: entitled to come on for return and could perhaps reverse York running with Fujaira Prince.

Of others of note in the betting, Ben Vrackie is probably where he is because Frankie’s riding for Gosden, Johnny Drama is going a long way up in class off a 13lbs higher mark, while Secret Advisor comes back from a 27-month break; they do win – on occasions – and he has the form in the book to be threat, but not for me. I could have made a case for Collide, but I fear the drying ground might go against him, while Lucius Tiberius looks to be a better horse over 10f. As this is a race that usually goes to those towards the front of the betting, I’m content to go with my trio. I’m inclined to look towards Baghdad to provide the win, although am not sure in which order Fujaira Prince and Corgi will follow him home, so i’ll go the alphabetical route, Baghdad, Corgi and Fujaira Prince..

Ridiculous SP for Baghdad at 7/2, but I managed 6.2 on BF so I was a little happier.

The three selected were 1st 3rd and 4th and Frankie's mount you mentioned in the summary finishing second - so well done sir!

I had one of those silly bets on Frankie's 6 mounts in a 30p EW Heinz (taking the prices) on Thursday - if that 5th one had held on it would have been £8k .... ah well...............

I don't usually do these bets, but he'd had 2 of the first 3 winners on Wednesday and his first 3 on Thursday had a certain look about them ... so I though "what the hell".

Picked up £700 so I can't complain

You can never count him out but the only one of his I half fancy is Danzeno in the Wokingham - but on balance I sided with Cape Byron in that race

I suppose James Doyle could go through the card after that first winner
