Sprint Selection
I'm looking at focusing on creating a method for sprint selections, what would are the best filters to use for sprint distance races? (5f-7f) ??
Re: Sprint Selection
Sprinting is 5f/6f.
7f is a specialist race distance.
Back in the 1990's I used to do a "Groundwork" article for the "raceform update" weekly paper. As I remember sprinters (may even have been sprinters who won their last race) who return to race within 4 days used to do really well.
Not sure if it still holds true today.

Re: Sprint Selection
My database is a few months out of date, but assuming I got the queries right, since 1/1/10 it says:
5 or 6f; 1-4 days since last run. Strike rate = 14%
5 or 6f; 1-4 days since last run; won LTO. Strike rate = 26%
5 or 6f; 1-4 days since last run. Strike rate = 14%

Re: Sprint Selection
all runner in sprints 4 days and below returns for handicaps (excluded non handicaps for obvious reason)
Tested Results
Bets .Wins. WinStrike SP_PL PlaceStrike
7861. 1010. 13% -994.59 34%
Lto winners of the above group
958 215 22% -109.30 51%
both groups have a terrible return and i thought it would be hard to find a filter when the numbers are not positive at all but
interesting when taking the whole first group and instead of looking at placing would be simply noting the runners who retained the jockey it turns from terrible to a possible pointer for further investigation of runners from a form perspective
different jockey
5105 594 12% -1002.61 32%
same jockey
2756 416 15% +8.02 38%
There are some good trainer who have hard good success and a few with a terrible record with quick returners
