The speed rating from Pattern Form, I don't know how it's generated, but it is very in-line with strength of the horses. Altior for example will always be at the top of the speed ratings and he's also the best horse, so the logic is this should apply to all other races. it is not 100% true of course it isn't but it is a good barometer for the relative strengths of the horses in a race. That said, it is much easier to use it in hindsight when it has won, i would imagine that blindly backing top of speed in every race may not provide a profit (or it might), but i think over 1000s and 1000s of races it is hard to make a profit anyway as the market is usually correct but it can be used to at least give you an idea of how strong each horse is in relation to the specific race and it is something that a lot of punters won't be using so that is why PF can give you a distinct edge compared to other people, we aren't looking at win rate or handicap marks, it's all about this speed rating. PF seems to be stronger in the group races, i think this is because the best horses are more likely to hold their form and are also more likely to be well prepared in a run up to a race whereas in class 6 the horses may be less reliable and so they don't hold their form as easily, there's also other things like stable changes or whatever, and also the "dark arts" which is much more likely to occur in lower grade racing where trainers often aren't trying to win the race, just get their handicap mark down, whereas in group races you can pretty much say that everybody is "trying". That also said, the hardest thing to do is to future forecast using this data and actually putting your money where your mouth is. this is another part of the puzzle.

you'll always have more losses than wins unless you're incredibly lucky over a very small sample

After your filters are done are you just choosing the top one from the list regardless if it 100% or not?
