if anybody could write the full names for various race types it would be greatly appreciated. Maybe some others have the same question. For example, hch, hcch etc. etc.

Most Race types are covered as follows
(level)
nv - novice
md - maiden
sl - Selling
cl - Claimer
(handicap)
hc - handicap
(jump sort)
ch - chase
h - hurdle
nhf - National Hunt Flat race
ptp - Point to point
(grade)
g - Grade/Group 1,2 or 3 (Jumps/Flat)
l - Listed
ac - auction
(level)(handicap)(jump sort)(grade) - where each of the fields may be blank
nvhcchg3 - would be a "Novice handicap chase grade 3"
hchl - Handicap hurdle listed
l - listed flat race
hc - handicap flat race

The format has been added to.
If the abbreviation ends with an "m" it means it's a mares only race (generally lower grade than when not mares only)
